A Cost-Effective and Eco-Friendly Alternative
Most caulks and adhesives are dispensed using pre-formed cartridges, consisting of a tube, plunger, and nozzle. While these cartridges are common, there’s another option worth considering: sausage tubes.
Also known as chubs, sachets, or foil packs, sausage tubes offer several advantages over traditional cartridges.
Reduced Package Waste

Sausage packaging significantly reduces disposal costs. As the sealant is dispensed, the foil packaging compresses into a small disc about ¾ inches (2 cm) tall.
To illustrate the difference in waste, consider this: the amount of waste from 10 empty sausage tube discs is equivalent to just 1 empty 10 oz. pre-formed plastic cartridge.
This 90% reduction in waste lowers cleanup and disposal costs while also reducing the environmental impact by sending far less waste to landfill.
Less Product Waste
Pre-formed cartridges often lead to product waste, especially with fixed nozzle designs. A small but significant amount of sealant or adhesive gets trapped inside the nozzle, resulting in waste. For instance, approximately 1% of the product remains in a 10 oz. cartridge, while a 28 oz. tube can retain nearly 2.75%. This leftover product is typically discarded along with the cartridge.
While these percentages may seem small, they add up over the course of a job. For every pallet of product, you could be discarding the equivalent of an entire case of 10 oz. cartridges and nearly a case and a half of 28 oz. tubes.
Sausage tubes, on the other hand, allow you to reuse the nozzle throughout the project, reducing this waste and helping you get the most out of each tube.

SAVES SPACE
Sausage tubes take up less space than pre-formed cartridges. A single roll of foil, used to create sausage tubes, can replace over 2,000 cartridges. This space efficiency frees up valuable warehouse space and reduces shipping and storage costs.

LONGER SHELF LIFE
The packaging process for sausage tubes ensures that no air enters the product, preventing premature curing. This airtight seal gives sausage tubes a longer shelf life, reducing the amount of expired product that needs to be discarded.
Low Overall Costs
All these benefits—less product and packaging waste, more efficient use of space, and a longer shelf life—add up to significant cost savings. Sausage tubes are an economical alternative to traditional cartridges, particularly for industries that require long, uninterrupted beads or bulk applications.
